Artistic and creative genes are strong in both sides of my family, from current exhibiting family members, print and pattern designers, art lecturers, music and film creators, to past family sculptors, art teachers and more. I grew up surrounded by art and artistic influences –– from a very early age, I can remember being with my grandma at both her eclectic home and place of work, surrounded by paints, brushes, colours, pottery, screen prints, and canvases. All of her daughters became fantastic artists in their own right, whether professionally or purely for enjoyment. Her husband –– my grandfather –– was also an artist, sculptor, and stonemason, who taught art at a London art college.

My stepfather spent many hours and years restoring vintage tractors, vehicles, motorbikes, and boats, and I –– forever helping in some way –– was always fascinated with the many layers of paint, colours, rust, and oil patterns that the work involved. These memories have heavily influenced my love of texture, layers, and colours.

Some of the most important parts of my life occurred in a swimming pool. I’ve spent 35 years teaching children and adults to swim. I took up synchronised swimming at the age of eight, which led to my wonderful supportive mother becoming my coach. I went on to compete and coach, until retiring 10 years ago.

Alongside this, I started playing water polo at the age of fourteen. I have competed all over the country in national and county leagues, tournaments abroad, and have also coached many successful teams and players.

But, most importantly, I met my wonderful husband playing water polo, and we have three grown up children who were constantly dragged from pool to pool, hence all great swimmers and for a few years great polo players. I recently retired from water polo, which I miss terribly.

After many years living by the coast and spending decades in, on, and near water, reflections, patterns, and movement I feel have heavily influenced my art.

I have created over many years, using different materials and forms –– from home design and interiors to events dinners, parties, weddings, flower designs and textiles, but I have always returned to my fascination with home interiors and creating abstract art. For many years, I only created commission pieces for an interior designer, but with the challenges that life throws at us all, my priorities had to change. After a break of over ten years, with the support of my family and friends, I have returned to the studio and my first love of canvas abstract painting.

My artistic style depends heavily on my mood or inspiration at any given time reflecting texture and layers in a free flow state, I often paint with either dance music blaring or in serene silence. I love to paint colourful abstract art –– some of my art heroes include: Gerhard Richter, Elaine de Kooning, Joan Mitchell and Mark Rothko.

I am fortunate to have a home studio, which overlooks my beautiful garden, where the ever-changing light, colours and wildlife are a constant source of joy and inspiration. I also have my trusty fluffy companion, who is always by my side.

Visits to my studio are available by appointment –– please reach out for further details.
